Updated 2023. Unfortunately, Dark Money is currently not available on BBC iPlayer. It’s very likely to be repeated again so, so this page will be updated as soon as we’re aware of this.
The BBC have just released a cracking new drama called Dark Money which anybody who enjoys dramas should love. It’s a hugely topical story line which mirrors the #metoo movement that has become the big issue in Hollywood at the moment. The premise is simple that rich people can get away with their crimes simply because they can pay people off.
The show is screening during July 2019 and can also be watched for up to a year on the BBC iPlayer application. For anyone who wants to watch outside the United Kingdom then you’ll need a method to hide your location. This is easily done using a VPN service which you can see examples of in this page on Expat UK TV options. This works well on computers, phones and tablets as you can install the application however for other devices check out the DNS system for the BBC which is included in the subscription.
What is Dark Money about?
Dark Money introduces us to the Mensah’s, a fictional working-class family from North London headed up by mum Sam (Jill Halfpenny) and dad Manny (Babou Ceesay). Their youngest son Isaac has recently finished filming a major Hollywood movie role – but the family’s world is shattered when Isaac reveals he was abused whilst out in America by a renowned filmmaker.
According to the BBC’s synopsis, “Although guilt-ridden, the family decide to accept a substantial pay-off to keep silent, believing the money will help start a new life, enable them to heal and avoid the publicity hell of pressing charges against a celebrity. They are wrong. Damage runs deep, and the price of taking the money may be too high.”
Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, says Levi David Addai’s script is “gripping, timely and original.”
So I’ve just used a VPN to watch BBC iPlayer in Ireland and it’s worked really well. I thought being just across the border it would work anyway but that’s not the case.
