English TV Channels in France
Like many British people who spend a lot of time outside the UK, I generally use my VPN service to watch the BBC in 2023. As a news and politics junkie, the national broadcaster provides plenty of TV for me with its live streaming of a dozen channels and the huge archive on BBC iPlayer. However, after yet another evening watching the BBC’s political programmes being completely dominated by that damn Brexit stuff, I thought I’d look around.
So, with Identity Cloaker – my VPN, set to a UK server, I started looking for some alternative UK TV Channels in France and found a wonderful programme. Remember if you have a decent VPN service then you can get pretty much all UK TV in France, Spain or Europe via a fast internet connection.
Now I’d never watched Channel 4 much when in the UK, but their online site is called All 4 and it’s pretty good. Of course, it’s a commercial channel so even on the archived stuff you’re going to have to watch some adverts. Although those actually seem to decrease the longer you use the site, so after a few breaks I was only getting one or two adverts.
The programme that I found which has dominated my last week was a little gem called Escape to the Chateau and what’s more there are four series and a couple of spin off shows too.
More UK TV Channels in France Than the BBC
It basically tells the tale of a couple who sold up their flat in Southend-on-Sea and went to look for a property in France. They realised that they could get a whole lot more for their budget in France (approx £300,000) that they were expecting. In fact, they were shocked to realise that their budget would even stretch to a French Chateau albeit one that needed some work.
That’s where the story starts, they buy the stunning Chateau above and move in and start to renovate it. They don’t have much money and do lots of the renovation and repairs themselves. Although they do have some incredibly helpful and versatile friends, including one builder called Billy who seems to spend a lot of his life there.
The couple’s names are Dick and Angel Strawbridge, and you start off thinking they’re completely mad as the Chateau is in serious disrepair at the beginning. However, by the end of the series you will probably be full of admiration for them and of course a little jealous when you see their stunning French castle that they now call home.
There is a spin off programme where Dick goes around helping other couples who are looking to do something similar. If you’re interested in property and these fantastic French buildings, then it’s well worth taking a look. To access All 4 you just need to create a free account and of course invest in a VPN or a UK proxy fast enough like Identity Cloaker to stream video from any British media site to wherever you like.
It’s the perfect solution to enable anyone to watch UK TV in France via internet connections without the need for any dishes or expensive subscriptions. You can watch all the major channels and it’s been the easiest method on how to get British TV in France for over a decade.
Hi Eli, I love it too, it’s a fantastic story. Yes it’s still on there at the moment including some of the spin off programmes where they help other Chateau owners. It’s the BBC iPlayer where they last about 30 days or so, all the commercial UK TV channels tend to leave their programmes up for much longer. It’s presumably because you have to watch the adverts when they stream them anyway.
I love this programme is it still on All 4? I thought they expired from the site after 30 days or so?
