What is the BBC World Cup’s coverage in 2022?
The BBC is arguably the best outlet for World Cup coverage. Indeed, coverage will be available 24/7 using the BBC iPlayer app and website.
The BBC has a wide range of presenters covering all 64 games. Coverage of the World Cup is available on BBC One, BBC Two, BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, and the BBC Sport app. The BBC will bring fans live coverage of all 33 games of the World Cup. There are a variety of ways to get BBC World Cup content, including TV, iPlayer, Radio, and online. Barbara Slater, Director of BBC Sport, says the BBC will provide “the most comprehensive and holistic World Cup offering yet.” They will be broadcasting a significant number of the World Cup games live plus coverage highlights of every match. The BBC share coverage with the other large broadcaster in the UK – ITV Hub – where you can catch all the other matches.
Check out the schedule of matches and where you can watch them further down this post!
The BBC has a great team of commentators, players, and experts who will offer viewers a variety of content. They have a huge variety of coverage for the World Cup, including live match coverage, gossip, and news coverage
Can I Watch BBC iPlayer from Outside the UK?
The BBC is ‘technically’ unavailable from outside the United Kingdom. When you connect to the BBC site your location is verified by looking at your IP address. If it’s located outside the UK then you won’t be able to access any of the videos, TV channels or media online. Of course, there are ways to pick up some of the channels on cable subscriptions or dodgy IPTV devices, but these can be expensive or unreliable.
There is a simple way to watch the BBC World Cup coverage on iPlayer and catch the other games on ITV Hub too. Here’s a quick demonstration of how you can access all the UK TV channels using something called a VPN (much simpler than it sounds!).
This is Using NordVPN – Latest Discount Page Here
That’s all there is to watching UK TV abroad – you basically hide your real location and use the address of the UK server. You’ll need accounts on BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub, but you can set them up for free as long as you have a UK IP address. There are loads of VPNs available however you need one with plenty of UK servers which work with the BBC and ITV.
How will the BBC provide best-ever World Cup coverage in 4K?
If you’re looking for the highest definition, then the BBC is expanding its coverage to UHD and 4K. Remember you’ll need a Smart TV or device capable of displaying this. It’s only available from the BBC iPlayer service so you’ll be streaming this. If you do try and watch 4k online, you’ll need a fast internet connection if you’re watching live.

To get the best experience, your broadband connection should be fast enough to support 3840 pixels (full 4K) or 2560 pixels (low resolution).
Step 3: The BBC will provide coverage in HDR
The BBC plans to provide best-ever World Cup coverage in 4K and HDR. This means that the matches will be available in 4K on compatible devices and high-speed broadband, and in HDR on traditional TV platforms. The final match will also be simulcast on ITV. Online, the BBC will stream all 64 matches in 4K and HD.
Step 4: The BBC will provide coverage on BBC iPlayer
The BBC is providing best-ever World Cup coverage in 4K on BBC iPlayer. The matches will only be available on a limited list of devices that are able to stream 4K, but you can watch the World Cup through a web browser or mobile device.
